Description

Georgian American University

Georgian American University (GAU) was founded in 2001 under the visionary leadership of Elene Jamarjashvili during her MBA studies at Atlanta State University in the USA. Originally conceived as a School of Law offering Juris Doctor (JD) degrees, GAU quickly evolved and expanded its academic scope.

Upon her return to Tbilisi in 2002, Elene Jamarjashvili embarked on refining the university's business plan and seeking suitable investors. It was during this time that she met R. Michael Cowgill, a US-funded consultant with extensive experience in government projects in Georgia, who eventually assumed the role of University President.

In 2005, GAU officially opened its doors as a collaborative effort between American and Georgian investors. The university's initial focus on Business and Law programs quickly garnered attention and interest within Tbilisi's educational landscape. Despite the presence of existing international business schools, the demand for a program offering joint Business and Law degrees was strong enough to propel GAU forward.

The establishment of GAU was characterized by a commitment to international standards of education, ethics, and operational management. The founding group and Board of Directors brought diverse expertise, including knowledge of US, Georgian, and international law, business, finance, management, public relations, and education systems.

Over the years, GAU has undergone significant growth and adaptation to meet evolving market demands. New programs have been introduced, enhancing and diversifying the university's academic offerings. Notably, the addition of the International Relations and Diplomacy Program in the Law School marked a strategic expansion aligned with state priorities and market needs.

The subsequent establishment of the Natural Sciences and Engineering School in 2012/2013 further diversified GAU's academic portfolio, reflecting the university's commitment to providing a comprehensive education that aligns with global trends and demands. In response to the evolving educational landscape, the Liberal Education and Humanitarian Sciences School was added in the 2013/2014 academic year.

GAU's success is underscored by its focus on practical skills development and proficiency in professional English, ensuring high placement rates for students and graduates in Georgia's competitive job market. The university's relocation to a new campus on Merab Aleksidze Street in 2012/2013 represented a significant milestone, providing state-of-the-art facilities and a conducive learning environment for its growing student body.

In addition to academic excellence, GAU emphasizes experiential learning through internships with local organizations and participation in foreign exchange programs, enriching students' educational experiences and preparing them for successful careers in their chosen fields.
