Description
Dhaka National Medical College (DNMC)
The Dhaka National Medical College traces its roots back to its illustrious predecessor, the Dhaka National Medical Institute, founded in 1925 during the Non-Cooperation Movement in the Indian Subcontinent. This movement, a collective effort led by Mahatma Gandhi, Mawlana Muhammad Ali, and Mawlana Sawkat Ali, aimed to resist British Colonial Rule. As part of this movement, individuals were encouraged to boycott educational institutions under British administration and establish their own national schools, colleges, and institutes for modern scientific education.
In alignment with this directive, two medical schools were established in Bengal Province. The first, the Calcutta National Medical Institute, was situated in Calcutta, while the second, the Dhaka National Medical Institute, was established in Dhaka. These medical institutions played a crucial role in producing national doctors trained in modern medicine, contributing to the broader objective of self-sufficiency in education and healthcare within the local community.
