Gazi University, situated in Ankara, Turkey, is a public institution that originated in 1926 as the Gazi Teacher Training Institute, established by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. In 1982, it underwent reorganization through a merger with several other educational institutions, including the Bolu Academy of Engineering and Architecture, the Ankara Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences, and others. This restructuring transformed Gazi into a comprehensive metropolitan university following the enactment of the Board of Higher Education Law.
Before the implementation of the Board of Higher Education Law in 1982, higher education institutions in Turkey operated under various structures such as universities, academies, institutes, and schools. In 1992, the faculties and vocational schools in Bolu were separated to form Abant Izzet Baysal University.
Gazi University currently comprises 21 faculties, 4 schools, 11 vocational schools of higher education, 52 research centers, and 7 graduate institutes. The university has a diverse student body, with approximately 77,000 students enrolled, including about 1,500 from Turkic states in Central Asia. Additionally, there are around 5,000 students enrolled in graduate programs. The university's teaching staff consists of over 3,000 faculty members.
